34 Counts of Falsifying Business Records Alleged

Indictment Unsealed Tuesday, Details Charges

NEW YORK - Former President Donald Trump was indicted Tuesday on felony charges of falsifying business records related to hush money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.

The indictment, unsealed in Manhattan Supreme Court, outlines 34 counts of falsifying business records, each carrying a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

Prosecutors allege that Trump and longtime associate Michael Cohen engaged in a "scheme to defraud" by making illegal payments to Daniels to conceal an alleged affair with Trump. The payments were falsely recorded as legal expenses.

Trump has denied the allegations and called the indictment a "witch hunt." He is scheduled to be arraigned on August 1.
